EUROMUSÉES 2001

The museum as the interpreter of the world of labour.
Man, places and memory: a century of hard work, high risks and development.

Launched in early January 1999 within the framework of the EC "RAFFAELLO" programme, the EUROMUSEES 2001 intends to lay the foundations for a European network of museums created in buildings of industrial archaeological interest.

With their architectural heritage and memories of the work of man, in their new destination these often-abandoned sites can contribute to the socio-cultural development of historical areas. Such is the case of the 5 museums that are partners in this project: the Museu de Electricidade in Lisbon, the Centrale Montemartini in Rome, the Musée d'Art et d'Industrie in Roubaix, the Neues Museum Weserburg and the Städtische Galerie im Buntentor in Bremen.

With the coordination of the project entrusted to Eurocultures (Brussels), a website and a CD-ROM have been created through the collaboration of the Associazione Civita (Rome), with technical development by Sindnova (Rome).
